Connectivity
When you buy a phone from byphone it comes preconfigured for the system, and the extension - just plug it in and it should register automatically and be ready to make calls. However if you want to try and configure your own SIP device you will need to manually configure the phone. You normally do this by getting the IP address of the phone and logging into the phone via your browser.
To register the phone on your byphone system you will need to configure it to connect to the phone system and to register as an extension.
Below is a table that contains the main settings that need configured to get your SIP device up and running on the byphone system
Setting | Notes |
Account or user name | Extension number of the phone you want to set up |
Password / Secret | Go to extension and look up the secret and copy into the phone identity password |
SIP Registrar | System name.sip.byphone.co.uk |
SIP Proxy Address | System name.sip.byphone.co.uk |
Authentication username | Extension number |
SIP keepalive | On |
NAT / Stun | Off |
Creating a new extension for your Snom handset
Log into the byphone system and navigate to the "Extensions" tab under "Favourites".
Click on the add extension button and select "Add New Custom Extension"
Under the General tab:
In the User Extension field - add the new extension number(best to keep it inline with the existing number range if any).
In the Display Name field - add the extension name.
In the Outbound CID field enter the number you want this extension to present.
Registering your Snom handset as a byphone extension
Connect the Snom phone to your LAN (local area network) that has an internet connection.
Normally when the phone is powering up - on screen you will see the IP address that the phone has been given from your router or DHCP server.
Take note of this IP address.
From a PC on the same LAN that has an internet connection, open a web browser and in the top address bar - enter the IP address of the Snom phone and press Enter.
You should now be able to access the Snom phone GUI (graphical user interface).
Enter your telephone username and password if prompted.
Within the Snom GUI on the left hand side there will be a list of options - click on "Advanced" - then within "Advanced" click on "Update".
Under the Update tab there is a field called "Setting URL" - within this field paste http://hpbx********.byphone.co.uk/provisioning/p.php/ where hpbx********.byphone.co.uk is your individual byphone pbx name - this will have been provided to you at time of order.
When this string has been pasted into the Setting URL field click on "Apply", then "Reboot", then "Yes".
The Snom phone should then reboot and pull the byphone extension settings using the provisioning string that was pasted into the Setting URL field.
